New Intestacy Laws.
The present Intestacy laws were drafted in 1925 and last reviewed in 1993. So it has taken over 15 years for the 'powers that be' to realise that the value of Estates have increased but at last the amount a husband or wife can inherit (when the deceased does not leave a Will) are increased from 1st February 2009.
 
If the deceased has children, the surviving spouse will inherit the first £250,000 of the deceased's Estate (previously £125,000), or £450,000 (previously £200,000) if the deceased did not have any children.
